Report: Tele2 launches free service of 5% interest bearing account

MOSCOW, Oct 19 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator T2 RTK Holding, working as Tele2, has kicked off a service allowing subscribers to use their balance as an account with a 5% annual interest paid monthly, and money can be spent on connection, remittances, and payments, telecom portal ComNews reported on Thursday.

A T2 RTK Holding spokesperson said that if a client decides to unsubscribe from the service, the cumulated money will be returned to the mobile balance. The client can use money without any limits on connection services, open an account once again or withdraw money without any commission charged at a Tele2 store.

“A mobile account has long ago become a convenient means of payment for many people in the daily life, like a wallet that is always with you. Tele2 has other rules: only our clients can now earn on the mobile account’s balance without freezing it for a long period,” the operator’s Deputy General Director Andrei Patoka said.

T2 RTK Holding expects the new service to improve loyalty of users.

Georgy Vashchenko, director of the department of operations on the Russian stock market at investment company Freedom Finance, said the operator’s offer is unique. Tele2 could get about 2 billion rubles if at least 10% out of its 39 million subscribers use the service and deposit some 500 rubles, the analyst said.
